Water availability is top of mind for the Government of Alberta resulting in ongoing consultation around proposed Water Act changes (see https://www.alberta.ca/water-availability-engagement for links to a discussion document and survey).   These changes include areas of potential interest for water users, the aquatic environment and for future management and administration of a vital public resource.

Join Jason Unger in a discussion of the proposed Water Act changes and the potential implications for overall water management in the province.   The webinar will highlight the current state, the proposed amendments, and share additional questions, concerns and recommendations on Alberta’s water management.

Jason Unger is the Executive Director and general counsel at the Environmental Law Centre.  Jason has had a long-standing focus on water law and policy in the province.  His research includes areas around water conservation, aquatic ecosystems, species protection, and water management planning and collaboration.  A focus of his work with the ELC has been ensuring accountability for the consideration of instream flow needs of surface water and effective management and pollution prevention of Alberta’s surface waters.  

Jason sits as a Director on the Alberta Water Council and has been involved in numerous working groups of the council, including working groups around Healthy Aquatic Ecosystems, Non-Point Source Pollution, and on teams conducting reviews of the implementation of the provincial Water for Life policy.
