In anticipation of two forthcoming publications, the ELC will be presenting a webinar on March 26th at 12 pm MST. The webinar will recap our findings from our regulatory evaluation of Alberta’s Wetland Policy. To register, follow this link.
Wetlands are hotbeds of ecological diversity and function, and yet they continue to undergo significant loss. Alberta’s Wetland Policy aims to “conserve, restore, protect, and manage Alberta’s wetlands to sustain the benefits they provide to the environment, society, and economy”. The ELC looked at regulatory decision-making under the Water Act with the purpose of having a regulatory regime that meets the goals of the Wetland Policy, ensuring effective regulation and policy for the management and conservation of Alberta’s wetlands.
Watch for the ELC’s forthcoming publications, Implementation of Alberta’s Wetland Policy: Evaluation of Regulatory Decision-Making and Policy Alignment, and an accompanying backgrounder to Alberta’s Wetland Policy at the end of the month. The first publication summarizes our evaluation of regulatory decision-making and policy alignment under Alberta’s Water Act and Wetland Policy. In addition, it contains our recommendations for law and policy reform. The second publication provides background information about the Water Act, the Wetland Policy and provincial decision-makers in the wetlands context.
