Accepting Applications for mid June to August 2021 Summer Law Student Placement   

APPLICATION DEADLINE: June 4th 2021

The Environmental Law Centre (ELC) has been seeking strong and effective environmental laws since it was founded in 1982. The ELC is dedicated to providing credible, comprehensive and objective legal information regarding natural resources, energy and environmental law, policy and regulation in Alberta. The ELC’s mission is to educate and champion for strong laws and rights so all Albertans can enjoy clean water, clean air and a healthy environment. Our vision is a society where laws secure an environment that sustains current and future generations.

The Environmental Law Centre invites applications from law students attending a Canadian university for a student research assistant position for June – August. Applicants must have strong research and writing skills.   The research assistant will work with Centre lawyers and gain exposure to the range of Centre program activities, including law reform, education and monitoring, community outreach, information requests, and research.

Preference will be given to students completing the second year of law school.

Strategic objectives that the Centre is pursuing relate to: public information and education; environmental rights; climate change law and policy, and other environmental and natural resource topics.

While it is hoped that this summer law student placement will be performed in the ELC office, applicants should note that in accordance with government recommendations, working from home may be required for all or part of the summer law student placement, with virtual meetings and/or in-person meetings respecting social distancing requirements.

Rate:    $20.00/hour
