University of Alberta law students win 2nd annual Twitter Moot, donate prize to ELC
On November 20th 2012 five student legal teams hailing from Thompson Rivers University, University of Alberta, Dalhousie, University of Ontario, and Osgoode Hall argued a reference case in the 2nd annual Twitter Moot. Hosted by West Coast Environmental Law, the event sought to clarify whether a right to a healthy atmosphere exists in Canada. Representing government, aboriginal, industry, and environmental stakeholders each team was required to make its case in tweets replete with links and hash tags, which can be viewed here ).
After an incredibly fast and well-argued hour of mooting the Centre for Indigenous Environmental Resources represented by the University of Alberta prevailed. In an act of putting their money where their mouths were following the judgment Pippa (3L) and Sam (1L) donated the $500 prize to the ELC whose wonderful staff constantly work to elucidate important environmental law issues like the moot problem.
